BACKGROUND
This beautiful house has been welcoming guests since 1370. A friendly, spacious and relaxing place to mix with friends and family. Hidden behind a stone wall so you can switch off, but in the centre of a village and a few minutes walk from a shop and a great pub serving food. It has been in our family for the last 40 years. The house was gifted to the Church in 1919 as a permanent memorial to the loss of their son during the First World War in 1915.

We had an early family Christmas celebration for those who we would not see during the festive period, and it was indeed magical. 12 adults, 2 children and 4 very well behaved dogs. The house is utterly charming with many original features and Neil had kindly added a decorated Christmas tree and a basket full of goodies for our special stay, which was very much appreciated. The log fire made the living room so cosy for our games evening and our delicious Christmas dinner was so easy to prepare in the very spacious and well stocked kitchen. The bedrooms were really spacious and the beds so comfy. We had a meal at the White Swan pub, it was delicious and the service was excellent. A few of the family enjoyed the hot tub and said it was delightful. Neil responded quickly to our messages and was very helpful. Neil was very responsive and helped us with any requests or advice. We enjoyed lots of wonderful walks in the area, trips to the local pub and a fantastic Indian takeaway away. It was a truly wonderful experience and everyone was very comfortable. The bedrooms are huge, beds are comfortable. Bathrooms are very clean. The kitchen are was spacious. The other living areas are massive. The gardens and grounds are beautiful. We had more than enough space to eat, sleep, relax and gather. Walking along the river and dining at the White Swan was enjoyed by all. If you have a large group, I highly recommend the Old Vicarage. The house is incredible, with plenty of room for adults and children to spread out and relax. We spent most of our time in the huge kitchen which is the perfect entertaining space. The hot tub was enjoyed by most of our party and the children loved the play room and desk in the garden room! We had two meals at the local pub, The White Swan, where the food and service were perfect. We hope to return to The Old Vicarage in the future and will recommend to others! stayed for my friends 30th birthday, with 20 other quests and what a fabulous weekend we have had! house is stunning, everything you need is there and if things get a bit loud there is plenty of places to escape to. Surrounding areas is beautiful and I especially liked the little pub up the street, such friendly staff and tasty food. Immaculately clean and lovely and warm on our arrival during cold stormy January. The kitchen-diner is the perfect place for everyone to gather, it’s really well equipped and very warm and welcoming. The house is huge and there are lots of places for sub-groups to gather to chat or watch TV. We pre-ordered a meal at the local pub where we were made very welcome. We stayed for two nights but would have loved to stay longer. This amazing house enabled three generations to get together communally, whilst also having space and privacy. The kitchen, dining room was a wonderful central hub for all and different sitting rooms gave homely space for different groups. The bedrooms were large and comfortable, perfect for children and adults alike. We are hoping to arrange a return visit to make more memories with family and enjoy even more of the house, and local area. What a wonderful stay we had at the Old Vicarage in Ovingham. A stunning and spacious house with an attentive host who helped quickly with any questions. We enjoyed the hot tub which is in a beautiful garden. The area was great with a good local play park for the kids nearby. We have had the best weekend. We were a family of 20. And 5 dogs. We had the best time from start to finish. House and grounds both beautiful. Very relaxing and comfortable especially with all the dogs. House was huge. It was at its full capacity with us and there was lots of space. Made great use of hot tub. We done a mix or cooking and ordering in. White Swan pub even done take away for us all on the Sunday. They were lovely. Neil could not have been any more helpful. We were a large group and the house gave everyone plenty of space. The bedrooms are all spread out nicely and were all good sizes - some of them were huge with lovely views onto the grounds/gardens and view of the river through the trees. The gardens are really well maintained and even at this time of year were lovely and of course completed with the hot tub! The kitchen and dining area are particularly great and were ideal for our large group to be able to eat together. There was everything you could possible need and even 2 dishwashers to cope with our numbers. Everything has been very well thought out and Neil was a great host and answered any questions that I had. Check in was easy and a large parking area as well. Ovingham itself is a lovely village, complete with a pub and very easy access into Newcastle - about 25 minutes by car but there is also a bus stop outside the property. Would love to stay here again! ☹ Nothing at all to dislikeJane27 February 2023VerifiedYou hope for a great weekend but here we got perfection and the happiest of memories. ☺ This is by far the best house we have stayed in - as a large family (multiple generations) we need somewhere that can sleep at least 12. Usually some of us end up compromising so we can all be in the same property, other times we have had to hire 2 or 3 cottages and then we lose the feeling of being all together, but not here - this whole house and its grounds are ideal for a large group and made a birthday weekend one of the happiest times we have all shared. The living spaces are perfect for spending time together or finding a quiet spot in which to relax. We stayed during the FIFA World Cup so we had one room that was a TV lounge with the matches being show, another was a quiet room and the kitchen/diner was the main 'everyone together' space. All the bedrooms are very spacious, with some being simply huge. Having a king size bedroom on the ground floor was ideal for those who don't deal with stairs too well. Likewise, having a couple of rooms right 'up top' gave our teenagers a sense of their own space. In fact, each and everyone was wowed by their rooms. There are plenty of bathrooms, it never felt like people were having to wait their turn and all were very well appointed. The kitchen facilities are 1st class - fully loaded Sky TV, high end coffee machine, American style fridge/freezer, plenty of glasses, crockery etc (so we never felt we HAD to always wash up before the next meal) and despite it being cold outside, the house is lovely and warm and welcoming. Naturally we gravitated to the kitchen whcih comfortably coped with all of us. The gardens and grounds are wonderful, lots of great views over the River Tyne, a fab hot tub (which was the highlight for quite a few of our party) and outdoor seating and dining furniture. We will certainly like to come in the summer and enjoy the outdoors more.Andrew29 November 2022
